Fallout 76 had a rough start to say the least. I never played at launch, but like No Mans Sky it's gone from a shaky start to one of my favorite games. There's lots to do, explore and build. You can make your own player CAMP and decorate it, they even managed to make a building system that isn't a total pain! In fact, it's one of the better in game building systems out there. Never saw that coming from bethesda of all developers.

It is the first fallout game that lets you play as a ghoul. If you are a long time fallout fan, you'll get the significance of this. Being a ghoul can be a very effective way to play, making more obscure weapons like bows very powerful.

The big thing for me is how nice everyone is. Like this is a game where you can chuck nukes at each other yet I have only had one negative interation with someone. Even then, it was funny in retrospect. (In short, me and my pal Shadow made a bigot rage quit the game by having LGBTQA+ flag icons and spamming the heart emote.) Most players will wave emote at you, try to gift you things or just generally be chill.

You can take photos in game with photomode, letting you preserve your best and often funniest fallout moments. They will then show up on loading screens or can be used as your characters profile. They come in a higher clarity than the ones I've posted here, I'm just saving folks with poor internet the load time.

There is a premium currency in the form of Atoms. And it wants your money with cool items and convenience features like the scrapbox hidden behind the prenium subscription. But I can't say I have ever regretted a purchase.

Tips

Tips to play Fallout 76.

  • Start at LV1 when leaving the vault if this is your first Fallout game.
  • Don't feel shy about taking things from donation boxes as a new player, just pay it forward and donate when you can.
  • Try being a ghoul! You may enjoy it.
  • If a higher level player is gesturing or shooting at the ground they are trying to give you something.

Summary

Overall this is a good game if you are a fallout fan and like MMOs. The community is freindly and although the game isn't perfect it's fun enough to make up for it.
