The game

No Mans Sky is everything more I wanted from Spore as a child. Now, I am fully aware of the launch controversy, but I don't want to go into that here because A. it was years ago B. it's a more complex discussion than I want to go into on this site.

The version of the game I am reviewing here is Worlds Part 2.

No Mans Sky has quests and missions, but it is best for people who don't need lots of structure to enjoy a game. When you start, it will chuck you in the deep end (with instructions) but after a while you get the hang of things.

The game cycle involves a fair bit of grinding to reach certain goals - often orientated around collecting resources to build items.

No Mans Sky has some online aspects, but you can play it solo if you want. Communication is via an in game text chat, and the game is populated by people from a variety of countries. If you go to the [redacted for spoilers] you will see players showing off their animal companions, sitting down together and simply chilling out.

The game community is one of the nicer ones out there. I've never seen any abusive messages in chat or had anyone be a dick to me personally. If you go to the [redacted] as a new player, do not be suprised to find your inventory randomly stuffed with gifts.

There is also the Galactic hub which I haven't used myself but if you are a very social gamer is worth checking out.

Tips to play No Mans Sky.

• When you start you will be thrown into the deep end a little, just follow the tutorial and you will be okay.
• The game is supposed to be fun. If it is too easy, or too hard, change the difficulty settings.
